SPACE, WEALTH AND THE FUTURE

Research project about some of Swedens’ most powerful, wealthiest and influential families. How and where do they live, how rich are they and is there a connection between the physical space they inhabit and people’s knowledge and interest in inequality? Buy it and read it!

Part 1 of the project is a study about a group of the so-called super-rich. This small group of people controls most of the wealth accumulated by our society. In Sweden the most powerful part of this group are sometimes referred to as the “finance families”. The study is a search for a possible three-way relationship between (a) the physical space of the finance families in the form of housing, workplaces and vacation houses, (b) how this elite is depicted in media and (c) the general public’s overall awareness of the existence of the “finance families” and their fortunes.

Part 2 of the project is a foresight study experimenting architecturally with a fictional future. It is also a description of a future society hopefully never to come. It is telling a story about an (im)possible near future to describe how a Stockholm where the super-rich manifest their already existing wealth and power in the physical space. The text is illustrated with maps and images.
