We are the Malmö Arkitekturkooperativ - Malarki for short.

Malarki is a cooperative that works broadly with the concept of architecture. We promote and work with collective housing projects, write articles about the present and the future, do some wood work in small projects and guide private individuals through their projects in a self-developed process that draws out the clients' dreams of the future.

We're dedicating all our time, knowledge, and skills towards a greater cause: building a sustainable future. Our unwavering dedication to environmental preservation and social sustainability is second to none. We refuse to compromise on our responsibility to align with the UN's 1.5 degrees target, ensuring that every project we undertake is in harmony with global goals.

  • Per Hallström

    FOUNDER + ARKITEKT SAR/MSA

Per brings strong competence in managing large-scale projects in Sweden, where he has played key roles that bridge communication between contractors, collaborators, and the technical aspects of construction. His experience spans a diverse range of projects—from urban design and multi-use buildings to vacation homes and extensions—giving him an in-depth knowledge of Swedish building codes, standards, and urban planning regulations.

As a theoretically minded architect with a passion for writing, Per excels in producing reports, investigations, and essays that explore architecture and its intersection with politics. This analytical approach is complemented by his hands-on interest in restoration and transformation work. Co-founding the Malmö Arkitekturkooperativ has provided Per with a platform to contribute to a more sustainable, equitable, and forward-thinking Malmö. The studio focuses increasingly on socially impactful projects and self-initiated construction efforts, aligning with the city’s progressive ethos. Malmö Arkitekturkooperativ works with organisations like Backa Kåken and Malmö Bostadsbrigad to drive inclusive development under the shared vision of More Malmö for everyone!

  • Reuben Harris

    FOUNDER + ARKITEKT MSA

As a co-founder of the Malmö Arkitekturkooperativ Reuben works as a facilitator between community engagement, sustainability and architecture. His work often lies within the grassroots and localised communities helping groups realise their ambitions into the built world. Since the formation of the Malmö Arkitekturkooperativ he has worked as both an architect and community organiser on projects such as Backa Kåken, a feasibility study for a new model of community ownership through transforming an empty centrally located prison into a thriving cultural hub. Reuben is also a founding member of the Malmö Bostadsbrigad, a group of over 200 residents in Malmö that seeks to educate and facilitate community ownership of housing through active participation in the construction / renovation process.

Reuben has a passion for sustainable architecture and circular economies and his work often focuses on reusing existing building materials in new and imaginative ways. Reuben is comfortable working across all scales of design, from urban planning down to furniture design.

  • Jack

    OFFICE MANAGER + BARKITEKT

Jack, the Barkitekt, is Malarki’s four-legged creative genius and morale booster-in-chief. With his uncanny ability to nap in the most aesthetically pleasing corners, Jack reminds us constantly to not get stressed out. Unconventionally Jack doesn’t work for money, just treats. Lots of them.
