LunnamΓΆllan is, as the name suggests, an old windmill that still gives its name to the location and the adjacent farm. Today, only the foundation remains of what was once a grand mill. The ruins are located on an 864mΒ² plot of land that consists of the hill that was probably designated as the windiest place in the parish. But the location also provides a wide view, especially over the plain towards the sea in the southeast.
The project consists of designing and constructing a lightweight structure within the ruins for a private client who wants to use the site as a creative studio and vacation home. We will bring the old ruins to life and add a layer from our time to the site's long history.
The site is located in a fertile old cultural region that has been used by humans for millennia. The open landscape is scattered with farms and small villages. The plot is covered with trees and bushes. Several larger trees grow towards the north, while there is lower vegetation towards the south, a shard of nature in an agricultural landscape whose character we will preserve and develop.
Hopefully, the concrete foundation of the mill can be reused, but we cannot count on any support from the tattered foundation wall. Therefore, we want to build the house as a lightweight structure completely detached from the wall. Parts of the construction can be carried out in a local workshop in MalmΓΆ and then transported and lifted into place.
