03_Koloni no. 48

Koloni no. 48 is an ongoing renovation project of an early 20th century summer cottage in Malmö. The work is being documented to make the lessons learned about preservation, sustainable building and living, and local history accessible.

The cottage was built in the 1920s using very simple means. Walls and roof were made with leftover timber, and the inside was covered with clay plaster to create a smooth and airtight surface. In the 1960s, the house was extended with a bedroom. This part was built with typical materials and style of the time such as Masonite, mineral wool, and a low-pitched roof.

For the renovation only the most sustainable materials and methods is used such as cellulose insulation, timber, linseed oil, tar paint and reused windows.
