To learn about our bodies and the relationship we share with the physical world.
To learn, through play, the connection we have with others.
This proposal is named 'playschool' because
it is an injustice that as we mature we lose our right to play. Through continual reference to the landscape, be it built or existing, we invite the users of the school to experience the school in a state of fluidity. Always moving and always discovering, and always fun.
To the south of the site sits the school cafeteria, kitchen, IT suite and two small class- room spaces. The canteen wraps to the East to shelter the landscape which falls away to reveal the large entry to the Sports hall. If you take the slow climb up the hill you'll soon find yourself on top of the hall, able to look over the landscape or you can find a comfortable place to sit and watch the events happening below.
With all spaces in the North designed around the familiar Danish courtyard typology, the school introduces a sheltered and comfort- able place for children to play and learn in a recognisable setting. Adopting principles of forest learning the students and teachers will spend large periods of teaching time outside and with nature.
